Our 2009 holiday bash, Philanthroparty: Going Local focused not only on supporting non-profits but cast a spotlight on local food and drink and the cool people that provide it.
Despite torrential rains, an estimated 250 people came out Friday December 11th to party with us, the lobby quickly sprouting a garden of wet umbrellas. Once dry, everyone’s spirits perked up, happiness was rampant and DJ Josh provided the eclectic, thumping soundtrack. Erik Kamprud of Fat Alley Foods fed the masses on local, sustainably-produced delicacies while local chocolate purveyor, Tcho treated guests to samples of their flavors and SF Bicycle Coffee kept people warm and cozy. Non-profit friends in attendance included 826 Valencia, Architecture for Humanity, Kiva, Pie Ranch/Mission Pie, REDF and 18 Reasons.
Donations were solicited by various Hotties draped in red tickets and during the last-minute buying frenzy the party resembled the trading floor of the NY Stock Exchange. Several prizes were given away including a messenger bag and t-shirt from REDF, a copy of AFH’s Design Like You Give a Damn, a quart of Fat Alley Foods’ famous gumbo, the coveted instant wine cellar, 15 bottles donated by Hotties, and the night’s biggest honor: the chance to award the night’s donations (which reached $1500 including a nice chunk from Maria and Hot Studio) to a lucky non-profit of the winner’s choice! Designer and drawing winner, Lucy Lindkvist later split the proceeds between three recipients: Sunny Hills Services, Architecture for Humanity and Project Open Hand.
Congratulations to all; we appreciate the good work you do. Hot Studio wishes everyone a wonderful holiday time and a happy new year!
