OS X Snow Leopard

Mac fanboys are going crazy this week with the highly anticipated release of Snow Leopard. There is definitely some buzz going around the office and rightfully so… some new features are really smart, like the auto time zone setup, a more robust Finder, and quick wake up/shut down. But then there are a few bummers, like the rumored no Adobe CS3 support. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? That’s a huge deal for a design company that transitioned to CS3 within the last year. Sure Snow Leopard is affordable at a whopping $29, but paying for CS4 (and then CS5 next year) is not!

And then there’s the packaging…

I really thought the bad clip art leopard on the box was just a bad Photoshop job by some “I have too  much time on my hands” fan. But nope, that thing is real. How is it possible that Apple, a company well talked about by designers as having some fantastic packaging came out with a box and (even scarier) a disc with that on it. You can already tell that this is not going to be the unboxing experience that comes with buying an iPod or iPhone. Even more, there goes 8 years of great OS X packaging (and Apple’s dignity) down the drain.
