It was bound to happen. Open up a global channel for unmoderated conversation, and sooner or later people are going to want to take the interactions to meatspace. Besides, there’s only some much communication people can really have 140 character at a time, though the Twitter community has certainly become adept at cramming as much meaning as possible into that character limit.
On Thursday, February 12, a self-organizing collection of 105 cities (and counting) will be simultaneously throwing the world’s first Twestival! (That’s not even a real word, and I’m still excited!) The Twestival will be tweeted live from the various parties and back into the twitterverse. Presumably, all the world’s Twitter users will share in a feeling of global connectedness. That, or all the tweets will bring forth Fail Whale sitings far and wide.

Either way, the event’s also supporting a good and worthy cause — charitywater.org. Proceeds from Twestival will go to the group and their mission to help developing nations find sustainable ways to get clean, safe drinking water to their people water. Righ now? 1.1 billion people on the planet do not have access to clear water that won’t kill them or make them sick.
Tickets to the SF Twestival are $20, and include all sorts of freebies donated by local businesses and artisans. They’re also having a Guitar Hero contest, live music from Deborah Crooks, and as a super special bonus: Yours truly (that’s @joshdamon if you’re on Twitter) is going to DJ the event (you know, between Guitar Hero, the live music, and all that), providing the soundtrack to the evening. You can read more details about all the cool things scheduled for our local SF event on the Twestival SF blog where Alison (@bravegirl), our own busy volunteer planner, posts all her updates.
So, get your tickets to Twestival here, and I’ll see you there.
(And in case you missed it, here’s a link to the mix I put together for last Hot’s holiday bash.)
