At Hot Studio, we very much like to have our fun. But just like everyone else at this time, we realize that suspenders attached to a roomy barrel will soon be in fashion. This can only be good if you’re a cooper.
So for our holiday party this month, we wanted to do something that basically said, We’re pretty damn grateful the roof hasn’t fallen around our heads. Thus, the Philanthroparty. Long story short, we provided to our guests myriad information and promotion about non-profits — local, national and global — that we strongly support. The idea was that the bonhomie, the brochures and many a gulp from the “milk of human kindness” (over the rocks) would inspire folks to give. And so they did; we raised a nice chunk of change for charity.
(It would be interesting to find out how many other businesses did the same: toasting their colleagues, while raising a glass to the people trying to bring some relief to these bleak times.)
And did I mention that we partied? Oh yes we did. Look below for evidence of our partying ways. (We realize we open ourselves to mockery. It’s cool. We’re secure like that.)

I have indeed heard of several other Bay Area companies making donations to non-profits rather than overly lavish holiday parties. For example, Towers Perren donated $2000 to the SF Food Bank with the money they usually spend snail mailing holiday cards. They emailed them out this year.
This is great stuff.
